Audience

Audience is three lists: contacts, segments and topics. Open them in the console under Audience, or call the contacts, segments and topics routes.

Contacts

A contact is an address you already have a reason to write to. Search by the address. Filter by active, unsubscribed or bounced. A row shows the properties you stored, which topics that address receives, and why the status is what it is. From the same row you can open Emails filtered to that address.

Adding a contact and editing properties are ordinary edits. Unsubscribing is not. A person may leave. When the reason is that they reported a message as spam, nothing in the console puts them back on the list.

Segments

A segment is a set of rules, and every rule has to match. Membership is whoever matches at the moment you look, not a list you saved earlier. The detail page writes each rule as a sentence and pages through the addresses that match.

The same rule editor is what create and edit use. A segment with no rules matches every contact.

Topics

A topic is one kind of mail. A contact can leave one kind and keep the others. Until they choose, they follow the topic's default. Creating, renaming and deleting a topic are on the Topics tab. Deleting a topic removes the answers stored against it.
