Billing

What counts as an email, monthly and yearly plans, plan changes, overage, failed payments, cancellation and closing.

Each To, CC and BCC recipient counts as one email. A send whose recipients are all simulator addresses is not counted. The inclusion is a rolling 30-day window, not a calendar month. The screen that shows the plan is Billing and overage. Prices for every tier are on Pricing.

Monthly and yearly

Monthly is the list price. Yearly is the same plan paid up front, 20% less than twelve monthly payments. The inclusion window does not change with the term.

Changing plan

Change plan in the billing portal. The change is prorated for the time left in the period you already paid. The inclusion becomes the inclusion of the plan you moved to, including a higher volume of the same plan. Only an owner can open the portal. An API key cannot.

Overage

Overage is off until an owner on a paid plan turns it on. While overage is off, sending pauses at the inclusion. The ceiling is at most 10 times that inclusion. Past the inclusion, extra mail is billed monthly even on a yearly plan.

The rate per 1,000 extra emails is $0.55 per 1,000 on Starter, $0.45 per 1,000 on Pro and $0.23 per 1,000 on Scale. Free has no overage rate. At the ceiling, sending pauses. We do not raise the ceiling.

A failed payment

A failed payment keeps the current plan while payment retries are still running. When those retries finish and the subscription ends, the account returns to Free: 1,000 emails a month and 100 a day. Mail keeps sending inside those Free limits.

Cancelling and closing

Cancel a paid plan in the billing portal. Closing the account is separate: DELETE /account, signed in as an owner, revokes every key. How do I close my account? is that call.

Refunds

Closing the account refunds unused prepaid time for the period already paid, monthly and yearly. The amount is the unused part of that period, down to the second. Cancelling in the portal does not by itself close the account or refund that balance.

A plan set for you

A plan can be set on the account without a self-serve subscription. It is invoiced outside the console. It cannot be set while a subscription is still running, because the next subscription event would replace it.
