Suppression

Suppression: An address we will not mail. A later send to it is refused.

A suppressed address is refused with suppressed_recipient and is not delivered. A hard bounce, a complaint, and an unsubscribe each add one. GET /suppressions lists them. Removing one is a separate call, for an address you have a reason to mail again.

A topic opt-out blocks that topic and does not have to block every message. See Topic. A simulator bounce does not join this list.

Related terms

  • Hard bounce — A permanent bounce: the address does not exist, and it is suppressed.
  • Topic — A named kind of mail. A contact who opts out of it is skipped on sends of that kind.
